Mill City

Today we went to the Mill City Museum in Minneapolis.  In social studies we have been talking about how communities change over time.  We talked about the St. Anthony Falls area and how it has changed over the years.  We discussed the reasons why people moved to the area (mills, mills, and more mills).  The students learned how crucial water power was to the mills-that's the reason they were started in the first place!

Community Fair Night

Friday, May 29 was Brimhall Community Fair night.
It was SuPeR FuN!!  Everywhere you turned there was something exciting to do.  Here are pictures of our classroom.  It was turned into a disco.  It looked really cool!  It was decorated purple with colorful lights, bubbles, a "graffiti board" and a real DJ.

This is Mr. Greene.  He was the DJ and he was AwEsOME!!!

This is how our room started out...

Then kids followed the sounds of music with Mr. Richardson and some lady with BIG hair.

Kids started to dance (and pose for cute pictures). . .

and before we knew it, the disco room started to fill up!!

Cute kids from our class - we had so much fun!!!

Some kids stayed just to hang out because the music was sooooo cool.

The graffiti wall - you can still see it hanging in the hallway.

The last song came with a surprise visit from Blaze.
He even danced with Mrs. Hinderer!

Here is a picture of the cafeteria.  They served really yummy food.
It was packed in here all night.

Another highlight of the fair - the "cupcake walk" room.  There were TONS of cupcakes!

Finally, the night ended with BEAUTIFUL and AMAZING songs from around the world.  It was the perfect way to end such a great night.  Thank you Ms. Liadova, once again, for sharing your time and talents with us!!  (Picture pending)

A VERY special THANK YOU to all of the parents who helped make the COMMUNITY FAIR a huge success!  Their time and dedication makes Brimhall School a great place to be.

Thank you   Thank you   Thank you

Scratchy Voice

Since outdoor allergies left me (Mrs. Rowan) with a scratchy, hoarse voice, I had one of the kids in our class read a story during read aloud time.  She did an amazing job and the kids loved listening to her instead of me!

For the past couple of weeks we have been reading one or two chapters from the beginning book in a series.  The purpose of this is to expose the kids to series books that are appropriate for 2nd-3rd graders.

Our Musical Extravaganza!

On May 5th we had our 2nd Grade musical program lead by
Ms. Liadova and Mrs. Way-Johnson.

Here we are in our classroom before the show.  Don't they look good!!??

Not only did they look fabulous, but they sang, danced and played instruments!

 Great job 2nd Graders
and
ThAnK YoU to our talented (and fun) music teachers.

2nd Grade Dance Party!!!

Second grade won the school dance party because we earned the most Bengal Pride tickets in a month.  We earned tickets by showing great Bengal behavior in school - YEAH 2nd grade!!!

A great time was had by all!!

Mowing

A couple of weeks ago we planted grass seed.  Along with the grass seed, we also planted a few alfalfa seeds in our cups.  The grass was finally ready to "mow" on Friday.  We will see if the alfalfa grows back with the grass.

This grass has been growning in Mrs. Anderson's classroom.  Her room gets the afternoon sun and this grass is much greener and thicker than the grass that is growing in our room (which gets the morning sun).
