Honest Abe

Today we learned about our 16th president-Abraham Lincoln.  We read the book Looking at Lincoln.  The book showed us how great of a president he was for the U.S.  We also learned that Abe grew up in a log cabin.  Check out our pretzel log cabins...

Dear Mrs. LaRue...

Brimhall is holding a decorate your door contest during the month of February.  We chose the book Dear Mrs. LaRue: Letters From Obedience School. The kids pretended to be the dog, Ike, and wrote letters to his owner, Mrs. LaRue.  The letters were trying to convince Mrs. LaRue to let him out of obedience school.

Snowflake at The Children's Theatre

This morning we attended the Children's Theatre's production of Snowflake. The unique element of this play was that is was a silent play. Even though their was no speaking- the kids absolutely adored it- many laughs!!!!

A Story and Hot Chocolate

What could be better than reading a good story with a cup of hot chocolate by the fire place?  The only thing better is doing all that with friends!  Here we are enjoying the book Spoons by Amy Rosenthal after a chilly (but fun) recess.  Look at all those rosy cheeks!

6th Grade Honor Choir Concert

6th Grade Honor Choir Concert

This morning we got to listen to a BeAuTiFuL 6th Grade Honor Choir concert.  The singers were 6th graders from across the district.  We heard songs sung in rounds and harmony, some had accompanying instruments or clapping and others had funny words we were supposed to listen for.  They sounded awesome - very impressive!

Our class was vey polite and respectful.  We were good audience members - probably because the music was so good.  Just think... someday these 2nd graders will be up there singing too - that will be fun to see (and hear)!

Stoplight Paragraphs

In writing we have been talking about how an effective paragraph looks like a stoplight.  A green sentence introduces the topic.  Yellow sentences give details and a red sentence concludes the paragraph.  The kids got to choose between writing about a special person, their favorite activity or their favorite book.  Check out our hard work...

We Love Mercy!!!

For the past few weeks we have been reading Mercy Watson books.  The kids absolutely adore Mercy and the stories.  During guided reading work time today, the kids made wheels that spin.  Some of the students chose to create a wheel that shows all of mercy's costume ideas from the book, while others chose to create a wheel that shows Leroy Ninker riding mercy like a horse.  They had so much fun!
